Generation I

James Waugh was born in Scotland. He died in VA.

Volume One of Scotch-Irish Settlement in Virginia, by Lyman Chalkey, page 379: Mary Stephenson vs James Waugh and Mary, his wife.--Slander--Writ 27th March 1780.

1787 Rockingham tax lists James Waugh, self, 1 horse, 7 cattle. From a survey of persons next to James on the tax list, he probably lived around Seneca Rocks or Riverton.

ca 1774 - established home in area of present Pocahontas Co (William T Price, Historical Sketches of Pocahontas County, 1901, p338)

1777 - enlisted for three years and had four children at the time

1778 Feb 17 - Augusta Co VA: "Mary Waugh, a soldier's wife, with small children, allowed 25 pounds"

1779 Nov 17 - Augusta Co VA: "Mary Waugh, a soldier's wife, with small children, allowed 60 pounds"

 

He married Mary Douglas. She was born in Scotland and died 1783 in VA.

Their children were:

Samuel Waugh (born 10 June 1774 in VA)
